    What is Spinal Decompression Therapy?

Spinal decompression is a non-surgical procedure intended to relieve pressure on the spinal cord or on one or more compressed nerve roots passing through or exiting the spinal column. At Burlington Spinal Decompression, Dr. Brad Deakin offers spinal decompression to help many men and women overcome chronic disc-related pressure and pain, even when traditional chiropractic adjustments, massage, physical therapy, and other common treatment options have failed to provide full relief.

At our facility, we have developed treatment methods over nearly 20 years of clinical experience. Not only do we have the most advanced spinal decompression equipment available but we also have customized and unique spinal decompression protocol. Our technology is incredibly effective as it does much more than any other equipment that we know of.

Spinal decompression is performed on a specialized traction table using advanced computer technology. It works to stretch the spine and provide effective pain relief. It does so by slowly and gently stretching your spine to alleviate additional pressure on the discs that sit between your vertebrae.

    An Effective Non-Surgical Treatment Option

The main goal of spinal decompression therapy is to provide immediate pain relief and promote an optimal healing environment. Some common reasons you might seek spinal decompression treatment include:

    Back, Neck, or Joint Pain

Relieve your pain by increasing the blood circulation to the spine with gentle decompressions.

    Disc Bulges

When a cushion between vertebrae bulges out, spinal decompression helps to gently stretch the spine and release pressure

    Disc Herniations

Correct a herniated disc or one that has protruded beyond its normal space or slipped out of place completely with spinal decompressions.

    Sciatica

Spinal decompressions increase the healing rate by improving blood flow within your body and rehydrating spinal discs to relieve pinched sciatica nerves.

    Scoliosis

Using gentle pressure, this treatment will stretch the vertebrae ever so slightly to relieve patients suffering from advanced scoliosis.

What is Nonsurgical Spinal Decompression Adjustment and Why Choose It?

Surgery of any type has the potential for complications, and spine surgery is no different. Surgical spinal decompression is another option for treating certain types of back pain but it is usually used as a last resort if other measures don’t work. It may result in issues from anesthesia, bleeding, blood clots, tears, infections, lung problems, and more.

This is why nonsurgical spinal decompressions are always a better option. Nonsurgical spinal decompressions gently stretch the spine, changing its force and position. This change takes the pressure off the spinal disks by creating negative pressure in the disc. As a result, bulging or herniated disks may retract, taking pressure off nerves and other structures in your spine. This, in turn, helps promote the movement of water, oxygen, and nutrient-rich fluids into the disks so they can heal.

How is Nonsurgical Spinal Decompression Done?

    Step 1

    Get a Spinal Evaluation

Schedule an evaluation so your doctor can create a personal treatment protocol based on a variety of factors, ranging from your body weight and spinal condition to the duration of your symptoms and your level of sensitivity.

    Step 2

    Lie Down On Table

While fully clothed, the doctor will have you lie down on a motorized table. The upper half of the table remains fixed while the lower half moves when it’s activated by a specialized computer. The doctor will then fit a harness comfortably around your hips and attach the other end to the table, near your feet.

    Step 3

    Stretch Spine

At this point, the table will be activated and the lower half of your body will gently slide back and forth in the harness, slowly lengthening the spine to alleviate pressure. As this is happening, the computer is monitoring your spinal resistance and adjusts the force as needed to keep you relaxed and prevent muscle spas

    Step 4

    Schedule Recurring Sessions

A single spinal decompression session lasts for about 30 minutes, and the average treatment protocol consists of 12-20 sessions spaced over the course of 4-6 weeks. Although patients with severe back pain may experience mild discomfort during their first few sessions, it does get better. Most people can expect to obtain long-lasting pain relief once they complete their prescribed treatment cycle.
